Pigeon & Orange

Pigeon & Orange

Wow, it’s been a while since I posted to the ol’ blog here. What can I say, I’ve been extremely busy at work writing stories, and I’m not a very talented writer so I’ve been putting in a lot of looooooong hours. Enough about that, let’s see some photos!I’m really liking the above photo of the pigeon. I think it’s a little magical. Simple and clean, just the way I like it.

Oil rig

Oil rig

I’ve been spending a lot of ‘free’ time on my oil field project. I’ve had the idea since last year to publish a book on the local oil field. I’ve been shooting photos of pumpjacks, rigs and misc. oil field equipment. I’m starting to really like what I’ve captured and I have about a total of 150 selects! The above shot was a nightmare to capture. I learned staring into the sun is a baaaaaaad idea. I did manage to figure out that using the DOF preview allowed me to cut out a lot of direct sunlight and let me compose my shot without catching my retinas on fire.

Pumpjack star trails

Pumpjack star trails

This is the first star trail photo I have ever done. I think it turned out alright considering it was my first attempt. I used a compass to find north and was able to position the rotation around the pumpjack rather accurately. Of course I had to add some awesome rim light.

Pulling unit

Pulling unit

Just a nice graphic sunset shot of a pulling unit. The wires coming down are so cool!

Matt

Matt

The above two photos are of my sister, Kim and her boyfriend Matt. I wanted to try two different approaches with them one was dramatic light on black where I had them scream at the camera, the other approach was this idea. It was supposed to be as if they were back-lit and ‘angelic’ but I think I need to flatten out the contrast more to really get what I’m looking for. Well, thanks for looking.
