A couple of friends and I have been working on putting together an art show. This is one of the pieces from a series I have been working on for the show.
The idea is to ride my bike around town and find pieces of trash. I then photograph the trash where I find it. Next I take the trash home to the studio, light it and process the photo.
I want to print huge contrasty saturated photos, but it’s hard to justify spending too much money on a personal project. I could attempt to sell a couple prints, but I’d rather put the photos up to be seen without any distraction of a dollar sign.
I don’t really have a solid idea on what the project is about or why I chose to shoot trash.
I wanted to do a project based around waste; not necessarily trash as waste, but waste in general. Waste of potential, waste of life.
If you decide to, you can do anything. You can take pretty pictures of trash.

I love your personal projects. They’re fun and inspiring.
Would you be interested in doing a lighting workshop for local photographers? I need help with lighting and I know a couple others locally who are willing to learn.
Thanks J, personal projects are what it’s all about!
I’d love to put together a workshop and help others learn how to light. I know it can be intimidating at first, but once you learn the basics it’s really fun and it opens up a whole new world of creative photography.
