Woah, life has been a little crazy lately in a good way I suppose. I’ve been commissioned for a couple projects and I’ve been busy preparing prints for an upcoming art show. Big photos after the jump?
Above is Cross mountain. I pass it every weekend on my way to go climbing. I think the layering of different segments of dirt, brush and rock are pretty sweet. There is a cross on top of the mountain as well but sadly it is not visible in the print.
This is another cross photo from Colorado. Sadly it printed darker than it looks on screen. I wish I could go back here. I feel like I have learned a lot about using light since I took these photos and I think I could greatly improve them.
This is my first Holga print. It was shot square on 120 Kodak 100 (I prefer Ilford 100 these days). Scanning negatives is HARD. Luckily I was able to salvage a white piece of plexi glass and use a video light at work to get some pretty good scans. I love the Holga. It feels more ‘real’ to me but sadly I have not made time for it in my life lately. I need to revive it!
So these are my prints for the upcoming Sara Grijalva Photography Contest. I’ve entered it the past three years in a row. I have yet to win Best of Show but have won First, Second, Third and People’s Choice. Hopefully this is my year for the big Best of Show!
This show always tests me. I have high hopes for my photos and I seem to always be disappointed by the end of a show. I really want to win and sadly it is mostly for the cash prizes (I really want to buy some big lights).
Aside from this, I was commissioned for two jobs. One is an architectural job and the other is a portrait job. The first really tested me, but the client was happy with what I produced and I consider it a success! The second was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to finish the files and send them off for prints. The client ordered 24×36 canvas prints to hang in her store and I think they turned out really nice. I can’t share the photos right now but I will hopefully soon!
